Option 1: Full-Scope Retainer Agreement
Best Suited For
• Disputes requiring ongoing legal services throughout various stages of the litigation process
• Disputes where some of the requisite legal services and associated tasks cannot be determined in advance
• Clients seeking ongoing legal services
Services Covered
• Legal services listed in our retainer agreement such as legal advice, document drafting, negotiations, mediation or court attendance
• Clerical work related to legal services such as document formatting, scheduling, or arranging service and filing
Fees
• $280/ hour for legal services, plus applicable taxes
• $180/ hour for clerical work, plus applicable taxes
• $0 for internal administrative work
• Disbursements such as process-server fees and court filing fees, charged at cost
Option 2: Limited-Scope or Unbundled Services Retainer Agreement
Best Suited For
• Disputes requiring specific legal services within a specific stage of the litigation process
• Disputes where all requisite legal services and associated tasks can be determined in advance
• Clients seeking to manage parts of the litigation process independently
Services Covered
• Legal services listed in our retainer agreement such as a case assessment, drafting a demand letter, reviewing a specific set of documents with written advice, or preparing for court attendance
• Clerical work related to those services such as scheduling the attendance, or arranging service and filing
Fees
• $280/ hour for legal services, plus applicable taxes
• $180/ hour for clerical work, plus applicable taxes
• $0 for internal administrative work
• Disbursements such as process-server fees, courier charges, or court filing fees, charged at cost
Option 3: Flat-Fee or Fixed-Fee Retainer Agreement (Only Where Reasonably Possible)

• Disputes where all requisite legal services, associated tasks, and time for completion can be determined in advance
• Clients seeking to manage part of the litigation process independently

• A flat fee or fixed fee agreed upon in advance and based on sufficiently complete information on your case, plus applicable taxes

What is a consultation?
A consultation is a meeting between a potential client and a lawyer. It allows the potential client to ask questions and decide whether they want to hire the lawyer, while allowing the lawyer to ask questions and decide whether they can provide their services to the potential client.
How much does a consultation at Zel Law cost?
Zel Law offers a complimentary 30-minute consultation. A more detailed, 1-hour legal strategy session is available for $280, offered under Option 3: Flat-Fee or Fixed-Fee Retainer Agreement.
Is a consultation at Zel Law held in-person, online, or over the phone?
Consultations at Zel Law are available by telephone, videoconference, or in person by appointment.
How should I prepare for my consultation at Zel Law?
For a productive consultation, please have all relevant facts, documents, imminent deadlines, and questions about your case readily available.
What happens after my consultation at Zel Law?
If we determine that Zel Law is the right fit for your case and you decide to hire us, we will send you an email from info@zellaw.ca containing an intake package. The package will include: (1) a request to complete a mandatory Know-Your-Client Form; (2) a request and instructions to complete the mandatory identity-verification process; (3) a request and instructions to e-sign the Retainer Agreement; (4) a request and instructions for payment; and (5) requests for other information or documentation required to complete the intake process and satisfy the Law Society of Ontario’s professional obligations.
If we determine that Zel Law is not the right fit for your case or you decide to not hire us, where reasonably possible, we will refer you to a trusted lawyer or paralegal who may be able to assist you. We will send you an email from info@zellaw.ca confirming that you have not hired Zel Law for your case.

A retainer agreement is a written contract between a client and a law firm. It usually explains the legal services the law firm will provide, how fees and expenses will be charged, and the responsibilities of both the client and the law firm.
